Frequently Asked Questions
"What locations do you serve?"
Northeast USA
My two home bases are Central Pennsylvania and Boston.
I'm ready to travel beyond these areas as well for additional fees.
If you provide a hotel for me, I'll go just about anywhere.
"I want to book! How do I secure my date?"
A non-refundable deposit of $1000 is required to secure your wedding date in my calendar. First, we'll discuss the details of your wedding over the phone and go over a contract.
"Is there additional charge for drone footage?"
No.
I don't believe in charging extra for flying cameras. I also can't guarantee that one can be used. Weather and airspace restrictions can make drone flight impossible. I am commercially licensed and will fly whenever it's safe, legal, and appropriate to do so. Drone during ceremony absolutely requires that I hire additional help so that somebody can operate cameras on the ground, so there may be additional fees with this.
**Also, please note: The federal government is working swiftly to ban DJI drones from use in the United States. If this legislation passes the Senate, I will not be able to provide any drone services to clients for the foreseeable future. This is true for all videographers, as DJI is the only company making drones that are good enough for what we do. I don't want your heart broken if this happens, so think of drone as an extra bonus, and not an essential element.
The drone I use is very portable, relatively quiet, and makes for quite the epic title shot.
Check it out.
"Do you provide raw footage, or uncut footage of various parts of the day?"
I do not deliver "raw" camera footage files to clients. The cameras I use generate footage that require a powerful computer to process or even view. The files are massive and the footage is missing color data until it's processed.
Trust me, you don't want it.
I can deliver "uncut" videos of certain parts of the day on request, but you're primarily hiring me to make an art film. Just let me know what's important to you and I will give you some options.
"Will you film my elopement or other forms of non-traditional weddings?"
Yes, I would love to.
I am in the business of telling love stories of all kinds, shapes, colors, and types. Let's do it.
"How long does final video delivery take?"
This depends on how much is currently in my video editing queue. My normal turn around time is 12 weeks. In some cases delivery can happen sooner, but I never rush films through the editing process. Quality takes time and attention to detail.
"We aren't sure which film length is right for us. Can you help?"
Of Course.
10 and 20 minute films are the most popular choices.
I also encourage you to watch the 30+ minute film on my home page, as I feel this effectively illustrates the benefits of longer films. It's all about story telling. The more time and content we put into your film, the more story we can tell.
Every couple has a different story to tell. When we discuss yours over the phone, you can tell me all about the elements that are most important to you, and I can make a recommendation for which film length to purchase.
"Do we need to wear microphones...?"
Here's the deal.
Videos are half visuals, half audio.
Audio is important.
That being said, some sequences will be silently set to music, and other sequences will benefit from interview audio, recordings of vows, recordings of letters, or any other off the cuff audio I capture.
The best audio for your film is usually -not- live ceremony audio. Private reading of letters and interviews provide the highest quality audio, and I will encourage every client to participate in small, easy interviews with me. I may ask you to wear a microphone, but I promise it will be easy and non-invasive.
If your DJ is handling audio for your ceremony, I may insist that we record your vows separately, since I cannot guarantee, supervise, or control the quality of audio work that another vendor is handling.
"Are you easy to work with?"
Absolutely
I treat all of my clients, and all of my fellow wedding vendors with respect, professionalism, and compassion. I consider it an honor to be given the opportunity to tell your story.
All of my clients have described me as easygoing and fun to be around. I laugh too much and enjoy getting others to laugh too. Having a beautiful wedding film is important. Hiring wedding vendors who bring the right energy to your wedding day is also critically important. I understand that a huge part of my job is the quality of my presence on your big day. Video doesn't have to be stressful. Let's have fun.
"What music will be used in my film?"
I pay yearly fees to license a library of music. It's not legal to use music for a commercial purpose like this without obtaining the necessary licenses. All of the music that I use will be legally obtained and should not result in any copyright strikes when posted online.
While it is sometimes possible to license a popular song by a well known artist, the cost is generally prohibitive. I'm a trained musician and I'm confident that I can choose the appropriate background music for your film, but I also welcome each client to share their genre tastes with me beforehand. If there's a kind of music you'd like me to avoid, I will.
Please note that I cannot include audio of the popular music your DJ is playing on the dance floor, or the popular song your friend will be singing a cover of. These are both still prohibited by law without license.
